What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback(NF) is a form of biofeedback specified on neural activity. Most NF records the electrical activity of the brain, records it, and plays it back to the patient in real time. Believed to operate on the psychological theory of operant conditioning, NF provides immediate reward to the participant at the time of desired brain activity to positively reinforce, and make the patient aware of, that brain activity. Patients learn to self-regulate brain activity in certain regions of the brain. This method of treatment has proven to greatly reduce negative symptoms in those with brains disorders such as Epilepsy and ADHD. With new studies showing promising results in treating multiple other brain disorders with NF, NF appears to be leading the treatment of mental disorders into a bright future without consistent, harmful, and expensive medication.
